ACRO YOGA PRACTICE JAMS are low-key, informal gatherings of AcroYogis where we practice skills, work on new skills, teach each other poses & flows, chill out, and relax with others. An ACRO JAM is a chance for beginners & skilled practitioners to play and share together in a relaxed environment.

Come by yourself or with friends! Partners are not needed. We have plenty of people to work with you. 

COST: If indoors, please pitch in $5-$10 to cover rent. If outdoors, tip your instructors. Or donate for future equipment purchases.

Depending on the location, each Acro Jam may have different offerings: group poses, slacklines, yoga swings, silks, lyra, poi, flow arts, dance aerials, lifts, and other fun stuff.

Come by yourself or bring friends. Partners not necessary. Bring yoga mats, snacks, masks, cushions, cameras, towel, ideas, and smiles. Hang out, fly or base, stretch, chill, laugh, observe, learn some cool stuff & most importantly HAVE FUN!

A PRACTICE JAM is informal gathering for all levels where we gather practice whatever skills we know, work on new skills, finesse our techniques, plus teach each other basic “taster” techniques, skills, and flows with others. If you are a NEWBIE, just ask and we will be happy to show you the basics and get you hooked into the fun activities.

ACRO YOGA: Join us the power of Acrobatics and Yoga to empower you to embody the practice with grace, ease & joy. Acro Yoga poses and flows will help develop confidence & coordination in various techniques in L-base, foot-to-hand, hand-to-hand, counterbalances & standing acrobatics. Acro Jams are for everybody and every body and every skill level – Beginners through Advanced. Just grab someone ask for to Fly … or Base.

ACRO YOGA 101: New to Acro? No problem! Ask the Acro-Jam-Bassador about this class for the newbie-beginner to learn the basic poses and foundations of Acro Yoga. You will be shown the basics of the “AcroYoga Beginners Flow”. This will immerse you in the joys and fun of Acro. Be careful, you may get hooked. Start stretching your hamstrings.

ACRO BEAST PARTNER WORKOUT: This is a Acro-based Partner Workout. We strengthen the community as we strengthen ourselves by utilizing AcroYoga Skills into strength training, cardio endurance, and flexibility with the partner work AcroYoga is known for. Build smart, toned, and coordinated muscles in a safe, fun & progressive environment.

FLOW ARTS & PROPS: “Let the good times flow” – We invite our friends of the Flow Arts to bring their poi, hula hoops, LED hoops, levitation (levi) wands, contact staffs, fans, and all that fun FLOW stuff. If you got it, bring it – Let’s play together!

The Basic Elements of Acro Yoga

You start with a Base and Flyer performing the movements and a Spotter for safety of all three.

Common Terminology:

  • L-BASING – The Base lies on their back
  • POSES – a single pose that work on balance and strengthening the core.
  • FLOWS – a continuous series of Poses that transition from one pose into another pose and ending up at a different pose.
  • WASHING MACHINES – a repeating sequence comprised of different poses that start at one pose and eventually finishes at same pose.
  • STANDING ACRO – The Base is in a standing position while Flyer is either on thighs, shoulders or in arms on top of Base.
  • HANDSTANDS – solo sequences that build your core shape and hand-to-hand skills.
  • FOOT TO FOOT (F2F) – Base uses arms, Flyer uses feet as points of contact.
  • HAND TO HAND (H2H)– both Base and Flyer use arms as points of contact.

WHAT HAPPENS AT ACRO YOGA JAMS?

Different venues may have some of the below options:

ACRO YOGA POSES: These are probably the most-apparent elements why you are interested and reading this now – plus the pictures are all over this website. Acro Yoga Poses are some of the funnest exercise benefits you can do with people of all sizes, ages, and skills levels. It is basically doing Yoga Poses on another human. These take balance, strength, and the willingness to do crazy-fun stuff with new friends while safety at the utmost importance. 

ACRO YOGA 101: Perfect for the newbie/beginner Acro Yogi. We will teach you the basic foundational poses and techniques of Acro Yoga. We have a curriculum built just for this, just ask us. CLICK HERE for more info.

SLACKLINE: Refers to the act of walking, running or balancing along a suspended length of flat webbing that is tensioned between two anchors. Slacklining is similar to slack rope walking and tightrope walking.

YOGA TRAPEZE/SWING: A Yoga Swing also called a Yoga Trapeze or Hammock, is a powerful yoga inversion tool that you can have fun while exercising by yourself or with others. You can hang it from a doorframe, rafters, ceiling joists, or outside from a tree, beam, bar, or swing set. Always ensure safety and test the rigging is in or on a solid structure. Some swings have weight capacity limits. Once inverted, you will can relieve stress on your back, hips, and improve your backbends. Build Strength & Flexibility – you can build your strength with amazing techniques that you use gravity to build up muscle and flexibility. Get ready for one amazing workout. MUST HAVE SPOTTER FOR THIS.

CIRCUS ARTS: Look up in the air – It’s a Bird, A Plane, IT’S A FLYER! Depending on location, we may have different circus apparatuses set up. Silks, Lyra, Ropes, Stilts, Hoops, Trapeze, etc. But always ask permission before jumping on any equipment, safety measures must be adhered to for circus participation. MUST HAVE SPOTTER FOR THIS.

FLOW PROPS: “Let the good times flow” We invite all the Flow Arts people to join us with your poi, hula hoops, LED hoops, levitation (levi) wands, contact staffs, fans, and all that fun FLOW stuff. If you got it, bring it – Let’s play together!

DANCE AERIALS & LIFTS:  Have “The Time Of Your Life” with dance aerials and lifts that can be used for getting into standing acro,  performances or just having fun.

WHAT TO BRING: Bring water bottles, snacks, yoga mats, cushions, cameras, towel, ideas, and smiles. You can hang out, fly or base, hangout, stretch, chill, laugh, observe, learn some cool stuff & most importantly HAVE FUN!
